Rendlesham redux

Map by Jhamez84
(April 1, 2010) The Evening Star reported that there have been recent sightings of unidentified flying objects in Rendlesham Forest near Woodbridge, England. A reader contacted the Evening Star saying his granddaughter and some of her friends saw a light above the treetops in Rendlesham. The UFO, the reader added, also frightened a man and his two dogs who were in a car parked in the area. The true nature of the light is still unknown and Suffolk police has as yet received no reports of UFO sightings.

The British Ministry of Defense investigated the area in 2009 after nine sightings were reported including "lights over Ipswich, a large black ball moving at 200mph over Bury St Edmunds, very bright white lights over Trimley St Mary, and fast moving orbs and 'sparkler-like' craft over west Suffolk". The Ministry of Defense has since closed down its UFO research unit. Due to the large amount of sightings that have been reported in Suffolk, the Evening Star set up a section called "Stargate Suffolk" to keep residents up-to-date with news about UFOs in the area.

Rendlesham became famous after United States military personnel stationed at the Twin Bases of RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge saw a UFO in the forest on December 27, 1980. There have been suggestions that the area might be an inter-dimensional portal allowing extraterretrials to visit Earth.

UFOs over Klang

(March 29, 2010) Sin Chew Daily reported that rumors of an unidentified flying object seen over Sri Andalas for three straight nights prompted residents to hold a vigil for the UFO on March 16. The residents who saw the UFO described it as being surrounded by blue lights and flying in a circle.

According to the rumor, a family from Taman Wira first saw the UFO. This incident was followed by more sightings for the next three nights. Once the rumors have spread, twenty residents armed themselves with telescopes and cameras and searched the skies for the unidentified flying object. They eventually saw the UFO at around 8:00 PM but it was too far way for them to photograph. A witness named Li Kangwei described the UFO as oval-shaped with vivid blue lights. He added that the lights changed to red as it descended and that it moved irregularly as it hovered in the sky for about half an hour.

Li also discounted the possibility that the UFO might have been an "aeroplane" noting its speed and hovering capabilities.

Tasmanian UFO: hoax?

(March 28, 2010) The Mercury reported that a photograph of an unidentified flying object in Tasmania may be a hoax. The photograph, allegedly taken on January 3 near the Franklin and Alma Rivers, was sent to News Limited and analyzed by astronomer Chris Arkless. Noting the difference between the pixels surrounding the image of the UFO and the rest of the photograph, Arkless determined that it was a hoax.

Last December, a wave of UFO sightings gripped Hobart which residents thought was a plane that was about to crash. A Tasmanian UFO hunter suggested it might be a "meteor or space junk".

Residents of Khujand in northern Tajikistan saw the flying saucer over the city and on March 22, a 9th grade student named Bakhtovar Khurshedzod captured it on video. Khurshedzod described the flying saucer as "red surrounded by white lights", moving soundlessly towards the mountains where it accelerated and disappeared. He added that he was sure it wasn't a kite or a plane.

Local air traffic authorities failed to detect the flying saucer on their radar which is usually turned off. It was not the first sighting of its kind as a similar incident occurred in the 1990s.

UFOs in Sydney

(March 25, 2010) news.com.au reported that a woman named Fiona Hartigan possesses photographs of unidentified flying objects. Hartigan, a resident of Sydney, Australia and mother of two; captured images of what looked like flying discs in the sky.

Hartigan recounted that she initially wanted to take pictures of the Sydney sunset when suddenly, a black object appeared on the horizon. This was followed by the arrival of two smaller objects. Hartigan said that the objects made no noise and that the scene was "calm and peaceful but it was very weird". She said that the bigger object flew up above Governor Macquarie Drive at Chipping Norton and the smaller objects flew in the other direction.

UFO Research New South Wales spokesman Doug Moffett proposed that the objects might be a manifestation of some electrical anomaly. He did not rule out the possibility that it might be an extraterrestrial craft. Moffet noted that the blur found in the objects suggest a form of propulsion system.

Flying saucer escorts jet

(March 24, 2010) Examiner.com reported today that one of its staff members witnessed a metallic disc-shaped UFO. A resident in San Rafael, California reported the same object to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). The sighting occurred on March 22, 2010 at 5:20 PM. and below is a summary of the Examiner witness' experience.

While watching the skies, the witness saw a twin-engine commercial jet approaching from the southwest. The witness then used his Bushnell binoculars in an attempt to identify the airline that owned the jet. As it flew over the witness' residence, a disc-shaped craft appeared out of nowhere. The craft seemed to fly alongside the jet; its flight described as "unstable". The witness noted that the UFO did not emit any sound or lights and had no discernible features such as windows, wings "or other stabilizers". He estimated that the UFO flew 5,000-7,000 feet above his house.

Continuing his observation, the witness followed the UFO as it cruised beside the jet. He noticed that it did not flutter in the wind as would a balloon or some other lighter-than-air object. He seemed convinced that it was not a "pearl", "orb", "hologram" or "military drone".

The witness surmised that the UFO was simply observing the commercial jet or that its presence was a way by which extraterrestrials are trying to expose "more and more people to their presence".

Erie UFO solved

(March 22, 2010) Examiner.com reported that the true nature of the Lake Erie UFO has finally been revealed. Tom Wertman, field investigator for the Ohio Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) determined that the unidentified flying object seen for several nights over Euclid, Ohio was actually a jet coming from Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport.

During the investigation, Wertman tracked the light that was first witnessed by Euclid resident Eugene Erlikh. The two were even in contact as Wertman investigated the light and through their conversation, they were able to match the time frame when the light appeared. Wertman then compared the lights to the air traffic at the Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport; tracking it in real time with his computer. The data from a flight tracking website matched the light that appeared in the sky.

The objects continued to plummet and eventually disappeared over the horizon.

The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) filed the report as Case #22323.

Madonna of the Flying Saucer

(March 16, 2010) Today, the London-based entertainment website t5m featured an article about the sights and scenes of Florence, Italy...as well as a curious postcard that depicts what might be a fourteenth century UFO.

The article was written by international lawyer and freelance author Deidre Pirro who writes for the bi-monthly English-language paper The Florentine. The postcard in question presents a painting that was said to be done in 1450 by Jacopo del Sellaio. The painting shows the infants Jesus, John the Baptist, the Virgin Mary...and to her left, a dark oval-shaped flying object. The painting, currently located at the Palazzo Vecchio's Chamber of Hercules, came to be known as the "Madonna of the UFO" or the "Madonna of the Flying Saucer".

Ufologists suggest that the painting might be a depiction of one of the earliest UFO sightings in history as evidenced by the man and his dog looking up at the flying object. Such a suggestion is supported by the American UFO Research Coalition although Diego Cuoghi, art historian and UFO skeptic, claims that the flying object is merely a comet or the Nativity Star.
